Principled and Safe Humanitarian Access in EWIPA Settings

On November 12-13, a diverse group of key stakeholders gathered in Belgium, for a workshop organised by Handicap International – Humanity & Inclusion, to develop an agenda for action to strengthen healthcare access in contexts where explosive weapons in populated areas are used. Participants included States’ representatives, international and multilateral organisations, local and international NGOs, academics, medical practitioners, and individuals from affected communities.

The workshop was part of a multi-stakeholder process to produce guidance and recommendations for the implementation of the commitments set out in the Political Declaration on Strengthening the Protection of Civilians from the Humanitarian Consequences Arising from the Use of Explosive Weapons in Populated Areas, with assistance of the European Union EU in Emergencies and the Norwegian Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
